POP vs IMAP

The theory was that in email account could be IMAP or POP -- so far I can only see IMAP related control panels in Webmin. I was hoping to start on POP (less grief during transition), then move to IMAP later on.

All the email ends up as individual messages in a Mail Directory instead of a single mail spool but that's Postfix (Receiving mail server and SMTP) delivers it to users.

Remotely the mail can be downloaded by POP or IMAP, and there aren't any control panels in webmin. You can view the message that are one the server, and send email via webmin, but that's neither IMAP nor POP.

Re: POP vs IMAP

Many mail servers handle both POP and IMAP -- certainly every ISP I've used over the last few years. Often, they might not advertise the fact, but selecting one or the other in your favourite mail client is all that's usually required. Of course, if you've already created folders on the server (via an IMAP client), you'll only be able to download the mail in your inbox via POP. That is, mail in any other folder is usually ignored.
